Kamal’s golden journey comes in for praise

Prominent faces of south Indian film industry, including Rajinikanth, Venkatesh, Mohanlal and Mammootty, heaped laurels on Kamal Haasan for successfully completing five-decades in tinsel town at an event organised by Star Vijay in Chennai on Monday.

“The industry is proud to have an actor who would be looked upon as a fitting role model for the upcoming heroes,” said the big guns, while praising their esteemed colleague at the grand function.

Dance performances were dedicated on the ‘Ulaga Nayagan’ by Prabhu Deva, his father Sundaram, Shobana and students of John Britto. Vivek, Parthiban and Jayaram took turns to compere the show along with Gopinath.

Radhika Sarathkumar organised an interactive session of yesteryear heroines with Kamal, in which Gouthami, Revathi, Rohini, Jaya Chitra, Lissy, Tabu, Urvasi and Meena took part. “All my co-actors have made my working experience pleasant and they have been an integral part of my learning experience,” said Kamal.

‘Kamal unplugged,’ a music performance by Hariharan and S P Balasubramaniam, was held. It was followed by Shruthi Haasan and Illayaraja’s medley performances on the versatile actor’s evergreen film songs.

Others took part include music composer A R Rahman, producer AVM Saravanan, veteran actress Saroja Devi, directors Balachandar, Balu Mahendra, S P Muthuraman, Dharani, Mysskin, A R Murugadoss and Cheran, actors Sarath Babu, Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Abbas, Madhavan, Karthi Sivakumar, Arjun, Sameera Reddy and Sandhya, cinematographers P C Sreeram and Ravi K Chandran.
